Robotic Knee Surgery

What is Robotic Knee Surgery?

Robotic Knee Surgery is an innovative treatment option for the adults living with a partial knee prosthesis, early or medium stage osteoarthritis. Robotic Knee Surgery is a system in which, the surgery is designed under computer environment without starting bone incisions, positions and mutual compatibility of two prosthesis parts are adjusted ideally and previewed and bone incisions in desired position are performed without any error by the help of a robotic arm.

During the Robotic Knee Surgery, healthy bonny tissue in the knee is preserved and the surgery is performed through a smaller bone incision. The prosthesis used in Robotic Knee Surgery is designed in a manner that is compatible to the shape of the bone (anatomically) completely and does not prevent natural knee movements. Thanks to the anatomical structure of the prosthesis and its placement in the ideal positions, prosthesis abrasion and loosening appear later and the life of the prosthesis is longer.

What are the advantages of Robotic Knee Surgery?

Robotic Knee Surgery Partial Knee Prosthesis procedure has been designed in order to eliminate pain caused by knee osteoarthritis and to ensure following benefits potentially:

Smaller scar
More soft tissue protection
Less bone incision
Solid cruciate ligaments
Less blood loss
Shorter hospitalization period
Faster recovery
Later abrasion and loosening of the prosthesis
More successful surgery results

How does Robotic Knee Surgery work?

Interactive Orthopedic System with a Robotic Arm has three dimensional pre-surgery planning features. During the surgery, robot system provides real-time visual, sensorial and audio feedback to the surgeon for facilitating optimum positioning of the joint prosthesis and implant. It is this optimum positioning system that ensures more natural feeling by the knee after the surgery. Surgery is performed by the surgeon and the robot prevents the surgeon to make any mistakes during the surgery.

Who are the most suitable candidates for Robotic Knee Surgery?

Generally, Robotic Knee Surgery patients share following characteristics:

Generally knee pain at the medial or lateral part of the knee and/or under the knee cap coming with movement
Knee pain and hardness at the knee when shifting from sitting position to a movement.
Leg curvature
Not getting any benefit from treatments other than prosthesis

What should I expect after Robotic Knee Surgery procedure?

In most cases, it allows walking of patients after s short period after the surgery, driving a car within the first few weeks and returning to normal daily activities within a short period thereafter. During this period, physical treatment makes significant contribution to recovery.

How long is the life of Robotic Knee Surgery prosthesis?

All prosthesis have an expected life that varies depending on various factors such as the weight, activity level of the patient, quality of the bone stock and following the doctor's recommendations. We can say that its life is longer than partial prosthesis and close to total knee prosthesis due to its advantages. Since very little bone is removed from the knee during Robotic Knee Surgery procedure, it is possible to apply total knee prosthesis where necessary.
